Richard Chiu

Principal
Richard is an experienced property and commercial lawyer. He has advised people,
businesses and government entities in general practice and at one of New Zealand’s
largest commercial law firms on the sale and purchase of residential and commercial
property, commercial leases, business contracts, bank financing, and family trusts.
He is a trustee of a charitable arts trust and has had governance experience with
companies and body corporates. On the weekend he can be found cycling with his wife and chasing after his young son.
Richard is based in our Wellington office.
Richard’s past experience includes:
- Acting on the acquisition of a local medical practice by a national organisation;
- Advising high net worth family trusts;
- Completing a subdivision and sale pursuant to Family Court orders, relationship property and mortgagee sale issues;
- Advising on the sale and purchases of businesses and asset portfolios;
- Acting for an international oil company on the management of its property assets;
- Assisting local councils with managing their property portfolios, road stopping, subdivisions, easement and encumbrance interests, leasing and licensing; and
- Advising companies on shareholders agreements, corporate refinancing and restructuring.
